Kidney for Life Centers

Transplant centers that participate in the Kidney for Life (KFL) initiative are committed to ensuring that patients receive the best match possible using the latest generation in DNA sequencing technology. There are currently 28 Kidney for Life centers.

How it Works

Once you select a Kidney for Life participating center:

  1. The patient and donor complete a simple cheek swab test that is done through the mail.
  2. The cheek swab test will be used for high-resolution tissue typing.
  3. Tissue typing results can help patients find donors with the best genetic match.

Kidney for Life Center Guidelines

Kidney for Life centers will provide:

  • Free post-transplant antibody screening for all KFL patients
  • Donor Shield coverage for all KFL living donors

Participating in the Kidney for Life initiative does not guarantee you will get a better match or that immunosuppression will be reduced.
